I’ve been feeling so inspired by Valentine color palettes lately! This ombre palette wanted to make its way into my workspace, so when ScotchBlueâ„¢ Painter’s Tape wanted to partner up on this little project I knew it was the perfect match. These supplies have been cheering up my office for a while now, and they make getting organized just a bit prettier. Let’s make some!

Materials

  • ScotchBlueâ„¢ Painter’s Tape for Delicate Surfaces with Edge-Lockâ„¢ Paint Line Protector
  • craft paint in your favorite Valentine colors
  • paintbrushes
  • plain office supplies
  • scissors

Make Time: 2 Hours

Before we get started, be sure that you choose office supplies to which your paint will adhere well. I found a few notebooks and a pencil cup with sturdy kraft cardboard covers, and a binder that the paint adhered to nicely.

To create the striped notebook and binder, begin by masking off the edges (where the holes are punched) with ScotchBlueâ„¢ Painter’s Tape for Delicate Surfaces with Edge-Lockâ„¢ Paint Line Protector for super sharp paint lines. Depending on the width that you’d like the stripes, cut strips of the tape and apply them to the front of the notebook. Smooth down the edges of the tape so that no paint seeps underneath.

Apply paint to the un-taped areas of the notebook. I love the ombre stripes getting darker at the bottom, so I used light colors on the top and worked my way down to the dark. Use your imagination!

Once the stripes are painted, carefully remove the tape from the notebook, being cautious not to rip any portion of the cover. I love this part, because you can really see the beautiful sharp edges that ScotchBlueâ„¢ Painter’s Tape creates.

For the rest of the pieces in the office set, I used a variation on the technique from the notebook. For colorblocked pencils, tape off the eraser portion of the pencil and paint the remainder one color. You may need a few coats. Once it’s completely dry, move the tape down on the pencil a couple of inches and paint the lower half of the pencil a complementary color. Let it dry, remove the tape, and sharpen ’em up!

To create a similar look on a pencil cup, paint a whole cup one color. Once completely dry, tape off a one or two-inch section toward the bottom of the cup. Flip it upside down and paint the taped-off lower section. Let it all dry, remove the tape, and add your pencil cup to your office collection.

And finally, to add a few mini notebooks to your collection, just tape off the top area near the binding and smooth the tape down. Paint the uncovered portion of the front of the notebook. If your notebook covers begin to curl a bit with the paint, never fear! You can mold them back into shape after it’s all dry.

I just love this collection! It would be an awesome Valentine gift to a co-worker or an organized pal. And the cool thing is that you can vary the colors and customize this project for any day of the year. Sending big Valentine hearts to the folks at ScotchBlueâ„¢ Painter’s Tape for helping us organize and craft at the very same time! 4. I’m not sure why but this site is loading very slow for me.
Is anyone else having this issue or is it a
problem on my end? I’ll check back later on and see if the problem still exists.
