Personalized Christmas Stockings

If there was ever a time of year for creating traditions, memories, and heirlooms, it’s the holidays! I made these for Mr. Lovely and myself, and I just love looking at them and knowing that they’ll be part of our holiday traditions for years to come.

If you’re looking for a new stocking for a friend or family member, I have some great suggestions and an easy DIY project to make a personalized monogram.

Christmas DIY Ideas For Gifts, Decor, and MOre

The holidays are prime time for making, so I took a moment to pick a few of my very favorite festive DIY projects to show you! If you love these stockings, be sure to look at these favorites.

I always recommend pinning them to be sure you don’t lose track of them!

An Easy Way to Monogram Stockings

Sure, you could order some monogrammed stockings online and call it a day. But you have to admit — there’s something so incredibly special about creating a Christmas stocking yourself.

Our whole family grew up with stockings that my grandmother made for all of the grandchildren. I still have mine. And just knowing that she took the time and care to create something we’d use our whole lives, at such a special time every year, makes me feel close to her.

With these DIY personalized Christmas stockings, I was hoping to create a project that’s easy enough for anybody to tackle yet special enough to feel like it truly could become a piece that you give to your loved ones to use their whole lives long.

Ways To Customize This Christmas STocking Project

As you get into the project, I think you’ll find that there are lots of fun ways to customize your monogrammed Christmas stockings!

  • Mix up the fonts to create a custom look for each stocking.
  • Use varying felt colors for each letter, or for different family members.
  • Place the letters in various places on each individual stocking.
  • Add extras to your stocking like tassels, pom poms, and more.

DIY Personalized Christmas Stocking Tutorial

Make Time: 1 Hour

  1. Print out the alphabet templates on cardstock. Decide on the letters and fonts you’d like to use on your stocking. I really love the look of combining the two fonts! Cut out the letters you will use from the cardstock.
  2. Place the letters ink side down on the felt and trace carefully around them with the ball point pen.
  3. Cut out the letters from the felt. Be careful to cut slowly and precisely — the more precise the cut, the more clean and awesome your stocking will look!
  4. Once the letters are cut out, arrange them on the stocking until you’re happy with the configuration. (This is the fun part!)
  5. Spread a thin layer of E-6000 on the back of the felt letters using the cotton swab. Be careful not to use so much that it squeezes out when you lay the letter down on the stocking. Adhere the letter to the stocking. If more glue is needed, gently pull up a piece of the letter and apply more until you feel that there is a sufficient amount.

Make Your DIY Stockings at a Craft Party

When I originally created these personalized Christmas stockings, it was for a crafting party at west elm!

This project is absolutely perfect for a holiday craft party or a lazy crafternoon with friends. It lends itself really well to a relaxed time together, chatting, sipping something cozy, and snacking or listening to holiday music.

You could make a whole craft party event of it! Have a few platters of snacks, set out lots of colors of felt, and have people bring their own stockings to personalize.

It would make for some amazing memories as you create family heirlooms together.

Ideas for Displaying Custom Christmas Stockings On a Mantel

Once your stockings are completely dried, hang them out for Santa!

If you have a mantel, I think these would look particularly great with these simple DIY finger knit garlands draped across the mantel as well. The textures are so cozy together.

I also chose a couple of other holiday mantel ideas to get your decor vibes flowing!
