DIY Leather Fringe Necklace

Leatherrrrrrr! I haven’t done a leather DIY in quite a while, and it’s just been too long. You guys know how I love the stuff. And this project just takes a few scraps, so you could even upcycle some leather from an old purse or something. (Don’t forget to go faux if you’re not into the real leather thing.) I love rocking this little fringe pendant necklace!

Materials

  • leather scraps, at least 2″ wide and 4″ long
  • scissors
  • fine cable chain
  • ruler
  • E6000
  • clothespins
  • jump ring
  • needle nose pliers

Make Time: 45 Minutes

Start by cutting three complementary pieces of leather into rectangles that are 2″ wide. The color in the front will be the shortest rectangle, and the color in the back will be the longest.

Trim the bottom ends of each rectangle into a point.

Carefully cut fringe into the pointed end of each rectangle.

Use the E6000 adhesive to glue the pieces of leather on top of one another, longest in the back and shortest in the front.

Cut about 30″ of chain. Connect the two ends of the chain with a jump ring using the pliers.

Apply a strip of E6000 to the top of the back side of the leather. Fold it over a section of the gold chain. Gently affix some clothespins to hold the leather closed while the glue dries.

Put that baby on and rock it out for the rest of the summer and into the fall! This one’s super easy to make for a gift as well — personalize the colors and surprise a sweet friend. Have fun! xoxo
