Welcome back gang! I’m so excited to finally share the rest of this hacky little project! Mr. Lovely and I had a ball putting together different pieces from Wayfair to outfit out laundry room, and ohmygosh is it way more functional now. In case you missed it yesterday, here’s the laundry room before:

DIY Laundry Room Shelving

Pretty much a washer and a dryer and nothing else in the world. We had been storing our detergent on the floor. Classy. So we found some pieces that came together to make the cabinets/countertop/shelving combo of our dreams. See yesterday’s post for the shelf how-to, and read on to make your own cabinets like ours!

Materials

Make Time: 4 Hours plus Drying Time

Start by putting together the two cabinets according to the directions on the packaging. Don’t bother installing the handles or the legs. The two pieces will initially look like this:

Fuse the two pieces together by drilling through the inner walls and securing them with bolts. We found that three bolts were sufficient, placed low, medium, and high.

Put the worktop on the cabinets and measure how wide you might like it to be. Ours was a bit too wide so we trimmed off a bit. Mark the excess with a pencil line and saw off the excess. Lightly sand the worktop and clean it to be sure it’s free of dust or debris. Add coats of your sealer according to the directions on the packaging of the sealer you choose.

From the inside of the cabinets, drill pilot holes on all four corners of the top panel. Lay the worktop on top of the cabinets and be sure it’s centered correctly. Use the drill to screw through the pilot holes and into the worktop until it’s secure and flush with the cabinets.

From your leather, cut faceted rectangles to act as a backing for the drawer pulls. We actually ended up using the leather to disguise the previously drilled holes, because the pulls we wanted were a different measurement. But I love how it turned out! If your pulls are a different measurement as well, you’ll need to drill new holes for the pulls to screw into. Drill pilot holes into the leather that correspond with your pulls. Place the leather against the drawer, insert the screws through the back of the drawer and through the leather, and screw into the drawer pulls.

That’s it! I still wiggle my toes with how the room turned out. We also outfitted it with a rolling hamper, which is my dream, and a drying rack that folds up neat and tidy. It’s all so bright and white and there are so many drawers I could just swoon. So I’m curious — would you attempt a hack-type project like this one? I think I might be addicted. xoxo
