Supplies You’ll Need
This project takes just a few supplies, and I’ll bet you already have all but one of them!
Plain Champagne Flutes. One reason I love this project is that you can almost always find a pair or set of champagne flutes at your local thrift store! Give them a good wash and they’ll be ready to go. Alternatively, this project would look great with stemless flutes or a modern shaped glass.
Liquid Gilding or Liquid Leaf. Liquid gilding is one of my favorite craft materials! It gives a polished look to any project.
Small Wooden Dowel. No need to purchase these if you already have something around the house that would work! A pencil eraser would also do the trick. You’re looking for something circular that’s about 1/4″ across.
Nail Polish Remover and Cotton Swabs. These are optional, and can be used to clean up any little smudges or drips.
How to Make Gold Polka Dot Champagne Flutes
Make Time: 20 Minutes
- Start with a clean and dry surface on the outside of the glasses.
- Dip the end of the wooden dowel into the liquid gilding. Be careful not to leave too much excess paint on the dowel, as it will slide around on the glass and ruin the shape of the polka dots. I recommend trying a few test dots on a piece of cardboard or scratch paper.
- Gently press the end of the dowel onto the glass, ensuring that paint is evenly applied.
- Continue in this manner, making the dots in a pattern that you like. I wanted it heavier on the bottom and lighter on the top. Whatever you decide to do, be sure to leave the very top of the glass unpainted, as you don’t want the paint in the area where you’ll be drinking.
- Once finished, allow the paint to fully dry.
Special Tips and Tricks to Make Your Paint Perfect
I found it best to do one section of the glass and let it dry a bit before moving on to the next section. That way, you ensure that the paint doesn’t run as you rotate the glass.
The paint dries quickly, especially if you hold it under a fan for a few seconds or gently blog on it.
In a pinch, if your paint runs, you can clean it up quickly with nail polish remover and a cotton swab. Just be sure you get it while it’s still wet.
Allow the paint to dry for a few hours or according to the instructions on your packaging.
These glasses will be hand-wash only after they’re used!
I’m loving the jazzed-up version of a dollar store find. You guys know you could put a gold polka dot on just about anything and it would tickle me pink. Happy Valentine’s Day, lovers! xoxo

Very cute (and quite classy I might add)! Would you use these glasses year-round? They look pretty versatile.
So cute Chelsea. The polka dots look like gold bubbles…which is kind of perfect for champagne glasses.
Great idea! I love how they turned out!

I love these so much! Perfect excuse to buy champagne glasses (somehow I don’t own any!) and maybe some new wine glasses too.
I absolutely adore these! I recently made some gold polka dot mugs using a sharpie, and I think this might be next on my list. It’s only a matter of time before all of my drinkware is covered in gold polka dots (and I see nothing wrong with that.)
Yes. My new gold bar cart definitely needs a couple of these. How did you know?
Call it blogger’s intuition. 😉
