I love carving pumpkins, I really do. And I’m sure I’ll carve up a pumpkin or two before Halloween.

But sometimes, you just don’t wanna carve a pumpkin. You don’t want to get your hands all gushy in the pumpkin guts and you don’t want to almost slice your fingers apart with those little pumpkin carving knives that don’t do anything anyway.

So this DIY is for all of you lovelies out there who want a lot of visual bang for your buck with almost zero time or cleanup. Fancy, gold, geometric, no-carve painted mini pumpkins.

Psst — before you dive into the DIY, be sure to sign up below for my VIP group, where I’ll send more of my very best DIY ideas straight to ya!

  • Mini pumpkins (we used fresh, but faux would work too)

The Best Gold Pen for Painted Mini PUmpkins

I always like to give a little rundown on my favorite paint pens for painting pumpkins or similar projects.

I love these particular paint pens for a few reasons. First, the coverage is beautiful and they rarely leave a streaky finish.

Also, the flow of the pen is really smooth, unlike lots of other pain pens that I’ve tried.

I find that you can’t beat the gold for shine and color. I’ve tried at least 5 different brands of gold paint pens and this one provides the best sheen and brightest color.

And finally, they have a range of tips, from ultra fine to thick, so that you can really choose the right pen for the job.

How to Make Gold Geometric Painted Mini PUmpkins

You could really do this with any old pumpkins, but I think it looks particularly modern and cool on white mini pumpkins. I would seriously keep these things out all year long. So. Get your pumpkins, dust off any yucky stuff, and start drawing.

  1. Start by giving your pumpkins a wipe with a wet cloth to remove any dust or debris. It’s nice to have as smooth a surface as possible so that the pen glides smoothly. Be sure to allow your pumpkins to dry or give them a wipe with a clean, dry cloth after you use the wet cloth.
  2. Choose a “front side” of the pumpkin. For this particular project, I looked for the smoothest side with the fewest blemishes and the shallowest grooves. (Sometimes if the groove is too deep the pen won’t reach down in there and you can’t get any ink on it.)
  3. On the front side, draw a triangle. Right next to it, draw another triangle, with flat sides about 1/8″ apart. I like to keep the lines between all of the triangles relatively even, so I always try to put flat sides together (as opposed to a point being next to a flat side).
  4. Continue in the same manner, drawing triangles and filling them in. You’ll have a geometric, randomized pattern start to appear.
  5. If you like, you can continue this pattern all the way around the pumpkin and completely cover it in geometric shapes. However, I liked the look of having just a patch of gold triangles on each pumpkin. Create your pumpkins to your own liking.
