How to Make These DIY Pom Pom Magnets With Kids

This is actually a perfect craft idea to create with kids!

If you have high school age children, the DIY pom pom magnets could be perfect inside a locker. And for younger kids, you could help them make the magnets to display their art or school work on a refrigerator or other magnetic surface.

As you’re working on the DIY pom pom magnets, be sure to use one of my favorite kid-friendly crafting tools, a low temperature glue gun.

The low-temp guns have all of the benefit of a regular glue gun (quick crafting and easy adhesion!), but they tend to run about 75 degrees cooler.

It’s a great tool to help introduce kids to using glue guns because it’s safer for little hands and tender skin, as the low temperature helps avoid burns.

The Tools and Supplies To Make This Project a Snap

This is a clever little tool that helps you create perfect pom poms every single time, with total ease. You may find that if you’re new to the tool, it takes a couple of tries to get the hang of it.

Perhaps try a test run with some extra yarn to hone your skill before you dive in. Once you make a couple of pom poms, I promise you’ll be off and running!

How to Make DIY Pom Pom Magnets

Now let’s make some of these beauties!

DIY Fluffy Yarn Pom Pom Magnets
  1. Begin by opening the pom pom maker and wrapping your yarn around both sides.  You can use just one solid color or choose several for each pom and just alternate the colors used when wrapping.
  2. Use your scissors to cut the yarn down the middle on each side.
  3. Cut a piece of 5″ long yarn and tie a double knot around the center of the pom pom maker and open up the pom pom maker to get your pom pom out.
  4. Trim up your pom pom to form a nice and neat little ball and repeat to make a whole batch of pom poms.
  5. Use your low temperature glue gun to glue the pom poms to the magnets.

You can’t tell me your desk (or refrigerator) wouldn’t be loads better with these colorful little fluffs! I couldn’t decide between solid colors and multi color poms, so I of course made some of each and I am so glad I did!

Now go forth and hang up your child’s art work or your bills with a smile on your face, because that my friends is the power of using these DIY fluffy pom pom magnets! xoxo
