Are Kara and I on the same page or what?! Our fearless DIY contributor made these colorblocked honeycomb pumpkins, which just so happen to go perfectly with our colorful fall wreath. We’re leading the crusade toward a rainbow-hued Halloween! Read on for Kara’s latest creation.

For me Halloween is one big party and I like to decorate accordingly. That means tons of balloons, streamers, banners, and honeycomb balls. But to make the decorations a bit more Halloweenish, a little DIY customization is required. Luckily all it takes to make these DIY color blocked honeycomb pumpkins is a pair of scissors and a hot glue gun and in no time you will be one step closer to a colorful Halloween party! I must say, I am obsessed with the color blocking on these pumpkins, but I am not one to shy away from color, even during a holiday geared to black, white, and orange. And hopefully you agree!

Materials:

  • Honeycomb balls in any size (just make sure you have two for each pumpkin you want to make)
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun
  • Twine for hanging the pumpkins (optional)

Make Time: 10 minutes

Step 1: Begin by pairing up your honeycomb balls to create fun color combos. Then use your scissors to cut a wedge shaped piece out of the top of one of the balls to create a stem and squatty pumpkin shape.

Step 2: Cut off the bottom of the ball to create a flat edge. Then repeat with the second honeycomb ball.

Step 3: At this time you can either use the sticky pieces on the balls to stick them together or use a hot glue gun to attach them. I found the hot glue gun works better to create a seamless joint between the two colors. With just the sticky tape, the pumpkins gapped and you could see a bunch of the cardboard sticking out which isn’t too pretty.

Step 4: Once you have made all your pumpkins, feel free to display them anywhere you like (bar cart, mantel, table top). You can even string small ones onto some bakers twine to create a mini color blocked pumpkin bunting!
