DIY Acrylic Dominoes

It’s one of my favorite times of the year, guys! The time when we get to unveil a whole new batch of DIY games for your game nights! This has become a tradition around these parts and it’s truly one of my favorite things to work on all year.We did a DIY domino project a few years back (and those babies are still rocking!) but I had this sheet of acrylic around that was just dying to be made into another set. I had this vision of crystal clear acrylic dominoes and I just think they look so cool! This one involves a little bit of power tool work, but it’s perfect for easing your way in.

Materials

  • 12″ x 12″ clear acrylic sheet (this one is less than $3!)
  • saw
  • drill with 1/8″ bit
  • rotary tool
  • metal ruler or guide
  • pen
  • scissors
  • scratch paper
  • optional: painter’s tape

Make Time: 90 Minutes

Step 1: Use your saw to cut the acrylic into tiles that are 1″ x  2″. It’s preferable to use a table saw to cut into 1″ strips and then a miter saw to slice the strips into 2″ tiles. If your acrylic comes with protective paper, leave it on while cutting and drilling. If not, cover it with painter’s tape before making any cuts. This protects against chipping and cracks.

Step 2: Mark a line down the halfway point of each tile.

Step 3: Use the rotary tool to etch a line over the halfway point of each tile.

Step 4: Use scratch paper to create a template for the domino dots. Cut a few tiles to the same size as your dominos and punch small holes in the paper where you’d like your dots. Use this template to trace dots onto all of the dominos. Here’s a good reference for how many dots go on which tiles.

Step 5: Use a drill with a 1/8″ drill bit to drill holes through the tiles on all of the dots that you marked.

Step 6: After all holes are drilled, remove the protective tape from the dominoes and play!

Have you ever actually played dominoes? We learned on a trip to Mexico and it’s actually great fun. It’s a thinking game for sure! We’ve been having lots of fun with this new clear set. Perfect for getting into the game night spirit! xoxo

P.S. Another great addition to your game night? Wes Anderson Guess Who.

  1. I would like you to make me a set. I have no way of making this but I want to gift the set for a 50th birthday present. Would you please make me a set? Name your price.

    1. Hi Cathy! Thanks for your comment. Unfortunately, we don’t take custom orders. But I wonder if you could find a similar set, or someone who could custom make them for you on Etsy?

  2. What thickness of acrylic did you use? The link to the sheet is now $6 & has a few different sizes. Thanks so much!!
