advertisements & another survey

A sweet friend of mine recently sent me some vintage music magazines because she thought I’d get a kick out of them and maybe be able to use them for some projects.  I saved one for posterity, and cut up and used some others (check it out here and here).  But before I got to work, I flipped through them all just for fun.  My favorite parts were actually the advertisements – it’s so interesting to see the ways that advertising has both changed and stayed completely the same.

I took photos of my two favorite ads for you.  Literally three pages apart in one magazine, an ad for weight loss formula and an ad for weight gain formula.  Don’t be fat!  Don’t be skinny!  I couldn’t help but giggle.

In completely non-related news, remember that survey that some of you helped me out with a few weeks ago?  Well, if you’ll indulge me, I’ve got another one.  It’s shorter and easier — it’s just a few more pieces of information that I need for a media kit that I’m putting together for Lovely Indeed (so I can show the blog off to fancy people!).  So if you have about 60 seconds (I swear, that’s literally how long it takes), click here and you’d be doing me a big solid.  I’ll owe you one.  xoxo

  1. My mother used to talk about how she looked in high school: “skinny with cow eyes.” In other words, thin, with big, beautiful eyes! ha ha

  2. I used to work at Better Homes & Gardens, and one of my favorite things to do was flip through oooold mags and giggle at the ads. My favorites were the ones that started out, “I’m a doctor, and I smoke Parliaments…” ha
