The Workout that Broke Through My Plateau

I love feeling like I’m strong. I’ve been working out probably since I was in high school, in lots of various forms. For a long time I was a cardio-only girl, and I would just get on that elliptical trainer and go to town. Later on I was all about spin. Then I went through a phase where I was training for a 10K, for who knows what reason (probably because I hate running and it was a crazy challenge). But I can honestly say I’ve never felt as strong as I do now that I’ve been working with a trainer.

I was super stuck in a plateau a few months after Maggie was born. I was feeling weak, like I didn’t even recognize my body and it felt so unfamiliar to me. I lost lots of muscle tone and cardio stamina and I was just bummed about it. Enter Rachel, trainer extraordinare. My first workout with her, I pretty much thought I was gonna die. Well, die or throw up. Or both. But I kept going back and going back and pretty soon things started to feel more doable. I’ve been working with her for a few months now and it’s become one of the things I look forward to the most. I feel stronger, energized, and — let’s be real — proud of those sore muscles.

Obviously, if you’re gonna start up a new workout regimen you need to talk to your doctor. This particular type of workout may not be for everyone, but this is the workout that helped me break through my plateau. It keeps you moving with a combo of cardio and strength moves, and Rachel put together this particular version so that you can do it with no extra equipment at all. If you wanna rock out, here you go — we’ve got a downloadable document so that you can print it out and follow the workout that we do. Just download and print, and go get sweaty!

And for sure, I always try to get some protein in after I work out. Lately I’ve been having to jet away from workouts to take Henry to school, so I’ve been bringing a Special K protein bar with me. It refuels me and helps keep me going. Later in the day I always feel better if I’ve had that little protein punch. On the days when I forget, I start running on empty. The Chocolate Cherry Nut Protein Bar tastes great and I can just toss it in my bag when I’m on the run. And don’t tell my trainer, but those little chunks of chocolate are the best part. 😉

So gang, do you like to get your fitness on? I’d love to know your favorite way to stay strong and healthy! xoxo

  1. I am a CrossFit junkie through and through. I tried running for a while and it got me to a good place where I had the confidence to go into a CrossFit box and sign up and just jump in and I never looked back. I love it!
