Macrame and wooden bead wall hanging

Hey you gorgeous Friday dolls! Why does getting to Friday feel like a monumental achievement these days? Maybe it has to do with the fact that Henry is now a human tornado ripping through our house and it’s nearly impossible to keep up with him during the workweek. Or maybe it’s the bun in the oven sapping me of all extra energy whatsoever, so that when Friday hits all I can think about is laying on the couch all weekend (which never really happens anyway)? Who cares?! It’s Friday and we should be celebrating by pretending to work but really watching fun videos on YouTube to waste time until you can leave work!!! Wait… Just me? Okay, in case you need something to pass the time:

This. Video. I watch it every few months when I need to be astounded and also giggle. This boy totally recreates a Beyonce video shot for shot and it’s BONKERS.
A soft pretzel party?! Everything my carb-loaded dreams are made of.
These rope tassel keychains are so simple but SO cool.
A living backdrop!
A cactus forest that’s way too cool.

Happy weekending! xoxo

I loved the little pick-me-up last week of listing all the good things that happened, so let’s do it again! Here are ten awesome things that went down this week.

1. We booked our anniversary trip and we’re going to Tulum, y’all!
2. I got a whole bunch of big fat YESES in response to emails I sent.
3. On Tuesday, little dude napped like a champion. (Never mind what happened on Wednesday, but oh Tuesday was a beautiful thing.)
4. I had my very first Mother’s Day and Ryan’s card made me cry. Like, actual tears.
5. We got to hang out with Amber and Markus and I’m pretty sure he and Henry were vibing.
6. Lindsay illustrated me! The most fun surprise I can think of.
7. Everybody in the 6 am spin class officially knows my name and greets me when I come in the door. It’s like Norm on Cheers, but early and sweaty.
8. My ban.do agenda came in the mail and OMG it’s awesome.
9. Henry sat up by himself for almost 20 minutes straight! A vast improvement from last week’s cute little 15 seconds.
10. I actually finished most of the stuff on this week’s to-do list, so we may have a weekend ahead of us that actually looks like a weekend.

Your turn! I wanna know something rad that happened for you this week. Tell tell tell! xoxo

Avocados in Half

Remember our old Ten Things posts? I kinda miss them! So I thought I’d do a little combo pack and wrap up with ten awesome things that happened this week. And away we go!

1. We had a little Cinco de Mayo fiesta at our place and finally invited all of our neighbors over! We’ve been in our house since September and this is the first time we’ve even met some of them.
2. Because of the party, we had to clean the house. And do all the laundry. So the house is already clean and we can skip it this weekend. Boom.
3. We partnered with BabyLit for an awesome giveaway! Truly, I love working with the brands that we know, love, and use every day.
4. Ryan landed a huuuuuge web design client, so we celebrated.
5. I made it to the 6 am spin class at the gym three times. Somebody high five me, hard.
6. Guacamole. Bowls and bowls of guacamole! Did I mention I love guacamole?
7. Henry started sitting up by himself! (For about 15 seconds at a time and then he flops over, but it still counts, right?!)
8. I lined up a couple of crazy good collaborations here on the blog. You guys are gonna love them.
9. Somebody told me I’m their “DIY spirit animal.” Thinking of putting it on my new business cards.
10. We made plans with Amber for a little weekend lunch date with our tiny people. I can’t wait to squeeze Markus until he pops.

Okay your turn! Tell me something awesome that happened this week! And then let’s all go out and nail it this weekend. See ya, gang. xoxo

Ten Things: Spring

Is there anybody out there that doesn’t like the spring? No, seriously, this is not a rhetorical question. I’d really love to know if any of y’all are not spring fans. Maybe if you have allergies?

Because I’m a fan. I think my favie fave season is summer, because I just love that Vitamin D, but spring is a good one too. And here are my ten reasons why.

1. When we were growing up on the farm, spring meant getting to hold brand new chickies after they’ve hatched.

2. That first day when you go outside and the chill is gone from the air.

3. Buds on trees.

4. The April showers that bring May flowers and all that jazz.

5. Speaking of flowers, all of those gorgeous spring flowers that you just don’t see during the winter.

6. The start of sunshine on your shoulders.

7. Dresses with no tights.

8. Color everywhere.

9. Awards shows!

10. People get happier (goodbye, polar vortex!).

Okay, your turn! And have a beautifully springy weekend. xoxo

Do you ever just get so itchy to go shopping? Gahhh I have it bad recently. I think whenever a new season rolls around I just want to go and chuck my whole wardrobe and start fresh. I never actually do it, but I sure do dream about it. Sometimes I find that browsing pretty stuff online almost does the trick, though. So I decided to dedicate today’s Ten Things to my materialistic side and try to avoid spending a bunch of money by just sharing pretty things with you. We’ll see if it does the trick, yo.

Glasses. Clutch. Clock. Hair scarf. Phone case. Dress. Top. Lip gloss. Swimsuit. Shoes.

That alarm clock is killing me slowly with cuteness. And I’ve never had a high-waisted swimsuit, but I’m thinking this might be the year to test one out, retro-style. Has anybody ever rocked one of those? Would love to know your opinion.

Phewph. Okay, I feel a little better. Although now I just kind of want to go on an accessory shopping spree at F21. I’ll try to hold it together. Have a great weekend! xoxo

Phewph. I’m ready for a weekend, y’all, how about you?! I’m going to weekend so hard, Saturday and Sunday won’t even know what hit ’em. (I love using “weekend” as a verb, don’t you?)

In any case, what with Meet/Make/Do behind us and now tying up all the loose ends, it’s been a long time coming that I have a chance to stop thinking about work for a bit. I’m heading into the weekend pretty wiped out but happy and so grateful for so many things. So I thought I’d keep it simple today and just have a Ten Things post about what I’m most thankful for right now.

1. My eternally rosy glasses.

2. Meeting gracious, kind, generous people.

3. Clear skies after rain.

4. Trader Joe’s.

5. Being able to read situations clearly and make a decision.

6. Sweatpants.

7. A husband who just gets it.

8. Looking through a zillion photos.

9. Knowing that you’ve done your best.

10. Sweatpants. Yes, again.

Leave me a note about what makes you feel thankful! And have a beautiful weekend. xoxo

Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine’s Day, lovahs! Are you guys into it? Are you, like, running around town throwing hearts at strangers and skipping and singing love songs? Or are you wearing black today in defiance against the greeting card companies for inventing a holiday? I’m always a little trepidatious on Valentine’s Day because I come across so many people who really dislike it. It kind of boggles my mind because I don’t take a staunch position against any holiday; I’ll celebrate just about anything. (And I especially love celebrating love.) But I do get it. Valentine’s Day is kind of a made-up holiday, and if you find yourself without a Valentine it can be a bummer. Although I did do a little research and found out that the holiday is said to have originally honored Saint Valentinus, who was tossed into prison when he performed marriage ceremonies for young soldiers to their lady loves, which was against the law. So there’s something, I guess.

Yadda  yadda, let’s get this post back on track! I decided that because we may have two camps on the whole Valentine’s Day issue, I’m splitting up today’s Ten Things. So now, without further ado, here we go.

Valentine’s Day Thumbs Downs

1. The restaurants that are booked months in advance.
2. Those icky teddy bears that you buy at the drug store when you forget a present for someone.
3. When people pronounce it “Valentime’s Day.”
4. Chocolate everywhere, which would be fine if I wanted to gain 10 pounds.
5. The really ugly jewelry that men think they have to buy from “fine” jewelry stores because of those awful commercials.

Valentine’s Day Thumbs Ups

6. Little kids writing Valentines to their classmates.
7. A reminder to communicate love to the people most important to you.
8. Cupid and that whole deal. A tiny chubby angel baby making people fall in love? Adorable.
9. Seeing couples out celebrating who are clearly enjoying being together.
10. Any excuse to get fresh flowers.

I would love to know where you stand on this whole V-Day thing! Leave a comment with your favorite or least favorite thing about Valentine’s Day, and have a great weekend! xoxo

Ten Things: Relax

These days, I’m feeling anything but relaxed. Alt (and the prep leading up to it) was such a whirlwind, and now we’re elbow-deep in planning for Meet/Make/Do. So I’ve got my game face on until about mid-March, when I’ll hopefully take a mini vacay and breathe for a bit. But I thought I could at least daydream about relaxing, and that got me thinking about my favorite ways to chill out. Some of them are weird and don’t seem relax-y at all; others are straight out of a relaxing textbook. Or would be, if there were such a thing.

1. Working out outdoors.

2. Cooking breakfast and eating it at home.

3. Travel.

4. Hunting for yard sales in our neighborhood.

5. Marathoning a favorite tv show.

6. Swimming.

7. Sharing a meal with friends or family.

8. Taking a camera out on a walk.

9. Binge-reading a junky novel from cover to cover, preferably in a beach chair under an umbrella.

10. Driving when I don’t have to be somewhere.

Basically, you’ll find me doing all of the above in March (hopefully)! I love the process of working hard toward a goal, achieving it, and then being able to recharge and regroup. So what about you? What are your favorite ways to relax? Let me know and then go chill — it’s the weekend! xoxo

blogging

Sometimes I just have to giggle about how weird it is to be a blogger. Especially, for me, a DIY blogger. I consider myself a maker, you guys know that, so even though Lovely Indeed covers lots of crazy topics, I do love working with my hands and sharing what I make.

But sometimes while I’m conducting DIY-type business I stop and just think how crazy it is. First of all, that it’s a job at all (which I love and am so grateful for). And secondly, the bizarre behavior that I and the rest of my DIY blogger pals tend to exhibit. You can spot a DIY blogger a mile away if you know what you’re looking for. So I thought I’d share a few things that I find myself doing and then laughing about. Here we go.

1. Hoarding weird junk like cardboard tubes and scraps of fabric “in case they come in handy.”

2. Stopping in the middle of every single project to take step-by-step photos.

3. Knowing exactly which kind of glue is good for sticking any two things in the world together.

4. Thinking “I could make that,” shortly followed by “But will I make that?” every time you’re in a store.

5. Covering up that one part of the project that you smudged and didn’t have time to fix for the photos.

6. Having intimate knowledge of the layout of every craft/fabric/hardware store in a 20 mile radius.

7. Standing, laying, sitting, contorting the body into any position just to get the right photo. (Exhibit A.)

8. Having 18 pairs of scissors because they each do something just a bit different.

9. The endless hunt for the perfect glue gun.

10. Glitter on the bottom of my feet. Always.

If you’re a blogger, what are some of your kooky tendencies? And if you’re in another line of work, what is some of the weird stuff you do because of your job? I love this game! Have a great weekend. xoxo

sara-eshakArt by Sara Eshak!
I’m all fired up over here. I have plans and dreams and schemes and the fire underneath me to make them happen. I don’t know about you, but words greatly inspire me. I’ve been collecting quotes since I can remember. Sometimes a certain sequence of words just is so beautiful, or succinct, or true, that it hits me right in the gut and inspires action. Isn’t that incredible? I always wonder what it must be like to be a person who is responsible for a legendary quote. There’s lots of responsibility in that, don’t you think?

In any case, I was trolling my own Pinterest the other day (follow me here), searching for my favorite quotes, and the ones that I feel particularly close to right now, in the start of 2014. I hope some of them light a fire under you, too.

1. At first glance it may appear too hard. Look again. Always look again. -Mary Anne Rodmacher

2. Not all those who wander are lost. -J.R.R. Tolkien

3. He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name. -Psalm 147:4

4. Perfect is boring. -Tyra Banks

5. Ain’t nobody got time for that. -Kimberly Wilkins

6. Creativity takes courage. – Henri Matisse

7. I’ll clap when I’m impressed. -Dangers

8. I feel that there is nothing more truly artistic than to love people. -Vincent Van Gogh

9. Stop the glorification of busy. -Jennifer Pastiloff

10. We cannot cure the world of sorrows but we can choose to live in joy. -Joseph Campbell

What about you? Any of these ring especially true for you? Or do you have a few quotes that you keep near and dear as you make your way through life? I would love to know — leave a comment so I can add them to my repertoire. Happy weekend! xoxo

goals

Now I know I posted earlier this week about how I’d like my 2014 to look. I love doing that every year, and I feel like it helps keep my mind clear and focused on the way that I’d like to be living. But I also have a bunch of solid, tangible goals this year that I’d like to work toward, and I’m putting them out there for y’all to see. This one’s just a little more scary, because when I say it out loud to beautiful people like you then I’ll be held accountable. But I’m thinking that’s a good thing. So bombs away.

1. Get cast in another show.
2. Double Lovely Indeed’s readership numbers.
3. Get something published in an American magazine.
4. Stop leaving little messes all over my house.
5. Finish the few projects around home that I’ve been putting off for so long I forget they exist.
6. Learn to do our own quarterly taxes.
7. Remember to play the piano, uke, guitar, and sing for fun, not just when I have something to rehearse for.
8. Take the stairs.
9. Build an app.
10. Work to improve my photography skills.

Okay, your turn. Say it so you have to stick to it! What are some of your goals for the new year? I’d love to hear ’em! xoxo
