When Easter candy is as pretty as this, it’s just begging to be made into decorations. We had so much fun making gingerbread houses over the holidays that we decided we needed to make an Easter bunny house for Easter, decorated with all of our favorite chocolates! I confess, I find it deliciously therapeutic to decorate these things. And the delicious part is half the fun, because obviously you have to taste test your materials. Am I right?

It was like a pastel wonderland putting this together, with spring-colored M&M’s flying every which way. I’m not complaining, y’all. We stopped at Target to stock up and realized they have Vanilla Cupcake M&M’s for Easter, which are not only perfect for decorating an Easter bunny’s house but also crazy tasty.  We also stocked up on Mars Minis and Dove Chocolate Eggs for extra details and because they’re just so delicious. And bonus — if you use Target’s Cartwheel app while you’re snagging your candy you can save X% on the whole lot!

Materials

  • spring chocolate — we used M&M’S Milk Chocolate Candies (Pastel Colored), Dove Silky Smooth Milk Chocolate Eggs, Minis Mix Chocolates for Spring, and M&M’S Vanilla Cupcake
  • gingerbread house kit
  • colored cardstock
  • double-stick tape
  • scissors
  • tray or platter
  • optional: gold stickers

Make Time: 2 Hours

How to make an Easter bunny gingerbread house

Step 1: Put together your gingerbread house walls and roof from  your kit. Build your house on your platter or tray.

Step 2: While your house sets, slice a few Mini Snickers bars to create “bricks” for a walkway. Set these aside.

Step 3: Use card stock to create a door and a treetop. Cut out the shapes with scissors. If desired, cut small pieces of your gold stickers to create a doorknob and a mail slot.

Step 4: Start laying the Snickers bricks to form a walkway from the area where the door will be, leading toward the edge of your tray. The Snickers will stick by themselves. Line the walkway with Dove Chocolate Eggs; place a small dab of the frosting from your gingerbread house kit on the bottom of each Egg to keep it in place.

Step 5: Decorate the roof of your house. We chose a rainbow pattern, but be creative! Place a small dot of frosting on each M&M and stick it to the roof until your design is finished.

Step 6: Add the tree and door to your house. On the back of each, cover a 1″ square area with double-stick tape. Then place a dot of frosting on the tape. The tape will keep the frosting from making a greasy spot on your paper. Press the door onto the house and the treetop onto a mini Twix bar. Place a dot of frosting on the bottom of the Twix bar to get it to stand up like a tree.

Step 7: Add any other details that you like! Stack a few M&M’s to make a small topiary, spread some green ones around the sides of the house like grass, or add windows and other decorations to the walls.

I love this! We added it to our Easter centerpiece on our dining room table and it’s so fun to have around. And it looks even better with a few little bowls of chocolate around it so you can grab a sweet snack as you pass by. 😉 Happy decorating, all! xoxo

Here comes Easter! This is one of my favorite seasons. Everything is fresh, trees are blooming, and these days I get to play Easter bunny for my kids — which is maybe the most fun of all. I’m finding that holidays are even better when you get to see them through your kids’ eyes. We are trying this year to steer clear of piles of candy and sugar around Easter, so I teamed with the gang at Wonderful Halos to come up with a simple, fun way to celebrate the holiday with healthy snacks. Halos are one of our go-tos around these parts – I toss them in my bag all the time to have on hand when Henry (or Ryan and I!) need a snack break. These printable bunny boxes just so happen to be the perfect size to house a Halo mandarin!

Materials

Make Time: 5 Minutes per box

Step 1: Download and print our printable bunny box template onto your cardstock.

Step 2: Cut along all solid lines. Crease the box inward along the dotted lines.

Step 3: Place a Halo in the center of the box. Fold the vertical flaps inward and then the horizontal flaps over the top, forming the box. Slide the two interlocking pieces together to create the bunny shape.

Step 4: Use a small piece of double-stick tape on the back of each ear piece to affix it to either ear. Mix and match ear colors for a fun contrast.

I love these little guys! I think we might wrap up a whole bunch of Halos and give them to Henry’s little pals at school. They’re the perfect project for a crafternoon with the kiddos – let them help choose colors and cut out the shapes, and you can construct the boxes together. Pop those little mandarins inside and it’s an adorably healthy Easter gift. Happy making! xoxo

Guerrilla Balloon Valentines

Hey Valentines! Just popping in to say that I hope you have a beautiful Valentine’s Day! What are your plans? As it turns out, when you’re parents of a two year old and an infant, Valentine’s Day is pretty low key. So we’ll probably be cheersing champagne while we sit on the couch and watch an episode of Crazy Ex Girlfriend in our pajamas. (Do you watch that show? Ohhhhhh my gosh it’s hilarious. And uncomfortable.) Anyway, whatever you’re doing I hope it’s a blast, and that your Valentine presents you with something chocolate. Or something sparkly. Or both. xoxo

Bottoms up, Valentines! I wanted to put together a fresh DIY for all y’all who might be planning Valentine’s or Galentine’s Day festivities, but who might not have a whole lot of time. So if you’ve got cocktails on the menu, these little stir sticks will take you precisely 5 minutes to put together. Pop them in your glasses before you start passing around the drinks, and they’ll up your festive quotient big time. Let’s make ’em!

Materials

Make Time: 5 Minutes

DIY Pompom Drink Stirrers

Step 1: Use the scissors to trim your bamboo skewers to your desired length.

Step 2: Use the glue gun to attach various pompoms to the top end of each skewer. Vary the arrangement and number of pompoms on different skewers for a fun effect.

Step 3: Trim all glue strings and be sure your skewers are free of any splinters. Pop them in your drinks and serve!

I love how they kind of look like bubbles! They look particularly fun in a fizzy pink drink, I’m just sayin’. And if your guests are smart and remember which stir stick is theirs, these can even double as drink markers! Pompoms are clearly the answer to everything, guys. Cheers! xoxo

Whatcha doing for your Valentine this year? I’m thinking it’s time to ditch the heart-shaped box of chocolates and do something a bit cooler. I had the idea to put together a photo scavenger hunt downtown to send my Valentine on a mad dash looking for his gift. That dude loves a challenge. It’s so fun and so simple to put together! Grab your Instax Mini 70 and head to your favorite part of town. The rest is quick and easy. Check out the video or read our instructions below! There’s also a chance to win your own FUJIFILM Instax Mini 70 camera and film, so be sure to read all the way to the bottom!

Start by hiding a gift somewhere. Use the Instax Mini 70 to take a photo of the location and make sure it’s recognizable to your valentine. Take that Instax Mini instant film to another location and tape it up. We added a balloon by every photo to help locate them. Once you tape up your photo and balloon, take another photo. Then go hang that photo somewhere else. Get the idea?

Keep going until you have about 3-5 locations. Then give your Valentine the photo of the first location to lead them all the way to the end and to their gift! The camera is so much fun to play around with, and makes these great photos that are colorful little keepsakes.

And NOW let’s talk about a giveaway!!! One of you lucky duckies can win your own FUJIFILM Instax Mini 70 and Instax Mini instant film! You’ll need to head over to our Instagram to enter, details are all over there. Can’t wait to give one of these away and spread the fun around! xoxo

DIY Valentine's Day Photo Backdrop

We haven’t done a photo backdrop in forever! I was pumped to put together a quick and easy little Valentine photo backdrop for some family photos. (Please note the absence of good ol’ Hank in these “family photos” — he was particularly opinionated on this particular day and couldn’t be persuaded to come take pictures. Sigh.) Anyway! This is a perfect photo backdrop if you’re on a money and/or time budget. There are only two materials and it took me about 10 minutes to put together. Let’s do it!

Materials

  • 6″ x 6″ cardstock squares (we got a pack of assorted shades of pink at Michaels)
  • removable glue dots
  • scissors

Make Time: 10 Minutes

DIY Valentine's Day Photo Backdrop

Step 1: Start with a blank wall. Decide where the upper right and lower left corners of your backdrop will be. Place a glue dot on the back of two squares of cardstock and stick them to these corners to outline your backdrop.

Step 2: Start filling in the wall. You can work in an ombre pattern like we did, or mix colors all together. We just placed the colors in a pixelated formation, leaving an empty space at random.

Step 3: Once you’ve filled it in, step back to assess and check for any spots that may need adjusting.

Then just snap away! This one is fun because it looks great both up close and a little farther away. It would be perfect for a Valentine’s or Galentine’s Day party  — you could snap photos of your guests or let them do their own thing with their smartphones. So cute! xoxo

Hey girl! You got some Galentines? I have gal pals near and far and I love celebrating them in little ways whenever I can, but Leslie Knope was totally speaking my language when she came up with Galentine’s Day. A whole day to celebrate your ladies? Yes, please. If you want to celebrate Galentine’s Day and get your gal pals a little something, here are a few ideas to get you going. And no, this post isn’t sponsored but every single one of these items is under $20 and just so happens to come from my favorite place: Target. I know you feel me.

Galentine Gifts Under $20

Makeup Bag. Flamingo CarpetTo-Go Mug. Heart Tumbler. Shower Curtain. Brushes. Wall Art.

Don’tcha just wanna traipse up and down the aisles at Target, tossing things in your basket to give to all your girls (aside from the fact that right about now a solo trip to Target sounds like a vacation)? Happy shopping, and Happy Galentine’s Day! xoxo

P.S. I just had to add that every single time I typed Galentine’s, my computer autocorrected to Valentine’s. I’m thinking autocorrect needs to join us in the 21st century. Get it together, technology!

2017

Hello, new year.

Hello, fresh starts. Hello, dreams and aspirations and the promise of unwritten days.

If you’ve been around here for a while, you know that I do this every year. I bypass the resolutions and make a list for my heart, a list of how I’d like my year to look. It’s a reflection of the things that I’d like to work on and strive for, and of the things that I already love about my life. It’s something that I look forward to at the end of every year, sitting down to take stock and really think through what I’d like the coming year to be like. So this is what I’m working for in 2017.

If it inspires you, you can download it below for your desktop or just pin our image and come back to it when you need to steady your course.

We love you. Happy 2017. xoxo

Pink Christmas Tree

Signing off, friends. It’s cold and quiet and peaceful and I’m always so grateful for this time to slow down and just be with my family. It’s our first Christmas as a family of four and I’m fully convinced there’s no way I could be more blessed.

Thank you so, so much for a gorgeous year. You all are what makes it so lovely in here, and I can’t wait to see you at the start of 2017 for some new adventures and ideas. For now, though, I’m hoping you are able to take some time to be with the people that you love and just enjoy the spirit of the season. No matter what you celebrate, I hope that it’s beautiful. Be merry. xoxo
