Oh snap!

Hey gang! Just a fun little stop-by today to see who’s on Snapchat! At first I didn’t really get it, because it seems so haphazard and quick and crazy. But now that’s why I kind of like it! It’s a nice little spot to share one-off updates or silly photos and videos that you don’t really need to put a lot of thought into. I think that’s my favorite — there are almost no filters, no technique, no nothing! It’s kind of freeing! I love editing and sharing Instagram photos but Instagram has become a lot less “Insta.” I think it’s more like sharing art now. But Snapchat?! Snapchat is just a big ol’ mess and that’s the fun of it.

So! If you Snap, you can follow me right here (username is lovely-indeed!). It’s easiest to click the link from your smartphone. I’d love to follow along with your snaps too, so I’ll get ya back! And what will you find me snapping about, you ask? Oh, ya know. Updates on our renovation, travel adventures, and Henry wearing doggy ears and making funny faces. The usual. Oh snap! xoxo

DIY Kit

Oh snap, I have been waiting and waiting to tell you guys some fun news! I’ve partnered up with one of my very favorite DIY blogs, Brit + Co., to bring some DIY right to your doorstep. Brit chose some of their favorite DIY projects from around the web and worked with the original makers (A.K.A. yours truly) to make handy dandy kits that you can buy. You get a gorgeous little package in the mail with everything you’ll need to make the project, and then you can give an awesome DIY holiday gift to someone you love. Or, y’know, keep it for yourself because you love it so much.

So! Remember the little leather valet I made for Mr. Lovely last year? That’s what you can get in the Lovely Indeed kit! We took it to the next level with a little gilding, so it’s a leather and gold leaf masterpiece of a place to keep your keys, your change, or any other little bits and pieces. It’s perfect for a classy gal and even more perfect for a dude who always has his pockets full. Check it.

Happy Monday, lovelies! Dropping by this morning to share a couple of super-rad (tooting my own horn?) DIYs I did for HGTV’s summer how-to extravaganza. They’re both projects with techniques that I’ve been wanting to try forever but have been too chicken until now. And as it turns out, they were both totally doable and turned out brilliantly.

These nail polish marbled votive cups are hanging out on my dining table, looking all summery and beachy. Best thing about these? You might have all the materials you need right at home. Check out the full tutorial here.

And if you’re heading to the farmer’s market this summer, be like the cool kids and get into indigo shibori dying. I made a couple of tie dye indigo market totes and they are now the only thing I want to carry groceries in. Seriously, I got addicted to shibori and you must have noticed my obsession with it here on the blog (evidence here, here, and here). For the skinny on the market totes, head over here!

Hey lovelies! While we are out of town, I thought it would be a perfect chance to catch you up on Lovely Indeed elsewhere around the web. I’m contributing to quite a few different blogs these days and I love it — it gives me the chance to share things that I wouldn’t normally post here on LI. Check out the links and click around for some extra reading! xoxo

Love these layered fruit ice cubes! Perfect for a hot summer project.

We hike a lot here in LA. Here are my top tips.

Mr. Lovely isn’t quite a dad yet, but here’s his wishlist for when he is.

Something I’ve been wondering during my pregnancy so far.

Every week, I’ll be sharing the ins and outs of my pregnancy over on Momtastic! I’m really pumped to have a space to share and chat with other moms-to-be. Check out the first post (and hear what’s really been making me feel ill) right here.

A few upcycled ideas to get your garden in fighting shape! You’re gonna flip for the last one.

We get around on our bikes more and more! Would you ever bike to work/lunch/the grocery store?

Gah! My husband is so smart about this stuff. I’m glad I can let him worry about it.

This little baby giraffe toy kills me!

Tin cans make some pretty vases, if I do say so myself.

Sooooo… oopsie I didn’t do any Cinco de Mayo projects this year! I’ve been so wrapped up in the show that I basically missed all of April and now it’s just about May! So in a belated attempt to help you celebrate, let’s just revisit some of the oldies but goodies, shall we?

fringe7

Make a quick DIY Cinco de Mayo photobooth backdrop for your fiesta! This one is super simple and adds a bunch of color to a room.

gem16

These little Cinco de Mayo gem pinatas are still one of my favorite (and most popular) projects! There’s even a free template for you to download. (P.S. Remember a million years ago when I made my very first pinata? I swear I was early on that bandwagon.)

garland6

I love, love, love making papel picado! This DIY version is way more simple than it should be. And that’s a good thing.

Mr. Lovely is obsessed with his FitBit

…and all of this other nerdy stuff, too.

Do big public events ever make you think twice?

My husband keeps zero receipts. Here’s how.

I’m officially grossed out.

Brace yourself, guys — I’m getting all fancy with my Pinterest boards lately.

Pinterest Party

I decided to do this experiment where I try to pin things all in one color palette for a short period of time. Have you ever tried that? It happened once by accident for me and I thought it looked so pretty when I looked at all of my pins together. So I tried it on purpose! Turns out, it’s a bit of a challenge.

Pinterest Party

It’s tricky for two reasons. First, you really have to scour the internet for inspiring things in the color palette that you’re working on. And second, if you see something else that you want to pin but isn’t in the color palette, what the heck do you do? I ended up pinning those things to a secret board for a while until my little experiment is over.

Pinterest Party

But anyway, if you go to see all my pins you’ll get the idea. You’ll also notice where it abruptly began, because the colors get all mixed again. I probably won’t do it forever, but right now it’s a really fun creative challenge! And it kind of makes me curious — have you ever manipulated your pinboards in a similar way? What do you think about when you pin and share an image? xoxo
