Hey dolls! Major fun news — we’ve got a new kid on the block at Lovely Indeed! The darling Kara of A Kailo Chic Life will be joining us to bring you some fresh DIY vibes, and I’m so excited to have her on board. Can you even stand her first project? These cacti are on point. (Get it?!)

Hey Everyone! I’m Kara from A Kailo Chic Life, and I will be popping in once a month to share a colorful new DIY project with you. Crafts, colors, and patterns are my jam, so I am so excited that Chelsea has asked me to come and spread the joy of DIY with you all this year! First up on the crafting list are these amazing DIY colorful cacti soaps. Soap making may seem intimidating, but I promise, if you can use a microwave, then you can make these soaps!

Wouldn’t you just love a few of these colorful gems in your bathroom? Not only are they fun for you to use to clean your hands, but they make amazing gifts too. Just package up a few in a clear bag and top with a few pom poms or a bow for the perfect gift.

Materials

Step 1: Begin by cutting your soap into 1″ chunks. Microwave 1-2 cups of soap (depending on the size of your pan and how thick you want your finished soap to be) in 15 second increments until just melted.

Step 2: Add your essential oils or scent and a few drops of your desired soap colorant. Mix well to combine and then pour into your mold.

Step 3: Spritz with the rubbing alcohol to remove any air bubbles, then let sit for 1 hour to harden.

Step 4: Once hard, use the cookie cutter to cut out your cacti soaps. If you use a metal pan instead of a silicone pan, you will need a small offset spatula to remove the soap from the pan before cutting it. Or you can place a piece of parchment paper in the bottom of the pan before pouring in your soap to ease the removal process.

Once all your soap is cut, you are ready to package it or give it away. Oh, and don’t throw out those scraps, they can be melted down again and reused for another soap project!

Thank you so much for reading along, and hopefully you now feel inspired try making your own DIY colorful cacti soaps! xoxo

I haven’t done a Grouped post in a while, and a look back through my Pinterest boards had me realizing that I’ve definitely been in a color mood lately! There’s this special sort of blue-green that I’ve been into, and it’s weird but I sort of associate it with California. It’s kind of got a nature vibe, and it falls somewhere between sky and water and cactus plants and mint. I know I totally sound like a tripped-out zen master, but go with me here. This sea foam color just doesn’t exist in NYC, and it was one of the colors I’d been missing before we moved back to California. Today I want to swing from a cloud just like that girl, and look around and only see this color. So here’s a whole bunch of it. Have a beautiful week! xoxo

We’re taking things to next level at Lovely Indeed these days, and so in place of our usual Brighten Up posts, I’d like to introduce Grouped! I was starting to feel a little boxed-in, trying to get colors together every week, so Grouped will feature collections of whatever awesome stuff happens to be catching my eye on the web. I tend to go through phases when I pin or bookmark things, and I’ve been seeing patterns lately. This week, I’ve apparently been kind of dark, because I’ve been pinning lots of moody things with a glamorous edge.

Room. Coat. Shoes. Cheese. Necklace. Ring. Lettering. Tights. Building. Business cards.

This whole thing makes me want to put on some huge sunglasses, turn up the collar on my coat, and be the mysterious girl in the corner of the coffee shop.  I don’t know what it is about the combination of all those neutral colors, but it’s definitely doing it for me right now. (And the touches of gold just puts it right over the top). Whaddaya think? I’m so excited about the prospect of this new column! If you have anything that you’d love to see Grouped, hit me with a suggestion! xoxo

This color is so bam that we only needed a few things to get the point across. The dip-dyed stool is pretty killer, and I love that little lacy something-or-another. But that neon quartz?! That thing is kuh-razy. I can’t get over it! And I just think the color against that gray background is perfect. So splash your eyes with a little highlighter neon this fine Monday morning and get going! xoxo

I’ve been pinning some things recently that have me wishing for foggy mornings, silvery mists, and quiet cups of tea. Never mind the fact that it’s still summer in LA — the weather in my head is absolutely dreamy. Here are a few finds that are leaving me in a hazy state of longing for winter. Any faves? Happy Monday! xoxo

In honor of the first week of fall, let’s get a little earth tone-y! Today we’ve got a palette full of chocolatey goodness, from milk to extra dark. And there happen to be two of the most awesome iPhone cases up in the mix, too — the ice cream sandwich is pretty great, but I’m really jonesing for the one that looks like a little vintage camera. And that strap would make it so handy!

Happy fall, and happy Monday! xoxo

I have such a craving for fall right now, but I couldn’t resist one last hurrah for summer! Just a final bite of ice cream, and a little more time with some cute sunnies. These super-refreshing sherbet shades are totally doing it for me today. How about you? Are you anxiously watching trees, waiting for leaves to fall? Or are you squeezing out every bit of summer that’s left? Happy Monday! xoxo

Red and delicious and perfect! This color is killing it for me right now. And it’s an awesome color that can go with either summer brights or the coziness of fall, yeah? I’d love to tuck my laptop into that gorgeous tomato-colored bag and tote it to a coffee shop to do my work for the day. And remember the whole craze of a gorgeous red wall in your kitchen? I did that in one of my NYC apartments, and even though the fad died I still love it. Are you guys into this juicy red? Where have you been seeing it lately?

Oh, and Happy Labor Day! xoxo

This entire installment of Brighten Up is all because of that bike! You guys, ever since I can remember I’ve wanted a cruiser bike that cool. I mean, the whitewall tires and the matching seat/handlebar combo and the front basket platform are just too much for me to take! Looks like I need to save my duckets for that one. In the meantime, I’ll just admire it from afar. Maybe while I read Black Beauty and wear those awesome vintage glasses. Happy Monday! xoxo

I’m savoring the last weeks of summer. I love those days when the sky is a perfect blue, like Crayola decided on the color. Add some unabashed yellow and you’ve got yourself a perfect color combo. And by the way — does anyone here have a Vespa? Mr. Lovely has been begging for one forever, and I have to say I’m starting to think that it would be pretty fun to toodle around on one. Helmet fashion, anyone? Have a gorgeous week! xoxo
