Farm Style

Did you guys know I grew up on a farm? I was raised on about 150 acres of almonds in the Central Valley of California. I didn’t realize it then, but I guess it was kind of an exceptional way to grow up — every time I tell someone I grew up on a farm, their eyes get kind of big and they start asking a lot of questions.

Anyway, I love going home to my parents’ house and roaming around on the ranch. Last time we were home, we went on a photo adventure around the cow pasture and barn. The sun was setting and it was just too beautiful to pass up!

How do you guys feel about the hair braids? I kind of just started styling my hair this way after I saw it on a magazine cover. Sometimes I feel like I might be too old for braids, but I kind of like them this way.

I totally have to tell you my jeans secret, too — Forever 21 has these $10 jeans that are my favorite. For reals. They’re ten bucks, they always last me a good while, and they fit better than most jeans I try. You can’t beat ‘em.

Also, don’t you love moccasins? I feel so comfy in these Minnetonkas. For some reason they feel homey — maybe I had a pair when I was little or something? And can you see those little rings? The one with a tiny letter C on it was the place holder that Mr. Lovely gave me when my engagement ring was getting sized. He got it at Catbird in Brooklyn (one of my favorite places!).

So where did you grow up? Anyone else a farm kid? I’d love to hear! xoxo

I am desperate for new jeans that are inexpensive, since I canNOT seem to shed the 5 lbs I put on. Rather than feel glum about getting dressed, some cute jeans that aren’t a $$ investment might help until I can get back on track!

Yes girl! Don’t waste any time feeling icky about it — just get something that fits that booty exactly how it is. ;) Kinda can’t go wrong for ten buckaroos.

We did have Minnetonka moccasins when we were kids. Remember? They were all the rage. Pink leather with the little tiny black, red, and white bead pattern on the toes, and a little fringe. We wore them til they had holes. :)

I KNEW it! And I just remembered I wore them with a Halloween costume in third grade!

A farm! How lovely! I grew up in a suburb of Phoenix, Arizona in a really modest home. When I was a kid, though, we knew all of the neighbors and would play hide and seek all around the neighborhood as well as street hockey. It was fun. We’d run around in no shoes (when mom wasn’t looking) even in the Arizona summers – don’t know HOW we did that!
