Event Ideas for a Paper Flower Wall

While we created this paper flower wall backdrop for a photo shoot, I think it could be perfect for so many occasions! Here are a few ideas to get your creativity flowing.

Holidays. The paper flower wall decor is perfect for including in your holiday decor. Switch up the color of the tissue paper for spring, summer, fall, or winter holidays. I particularly love it for Easter!

Celebrations. Creating a paper flower wall like this one is such an easy way to decorate for a party. Baby showers, wedding showers, weddings, receptions, birthdays, and more would be totally great occasions to use this idea.

If you’re creating a flower wall for a party, I love using it as a backdrop for an area where you want to create visual focus. It’s great behind a dessert table or cake table, or near the area where the guest of honor might be seated.

Photo Shoots. If you have an occasion that needs a pretty backdrop for photos, that would also be a great time to create a paper flower wall! A few ideas are first birthdays, engagements, graduations, and more.

The Best type of Paper for Paper Flowers

While I often use thicker crepe paper for our photo backdrop ideas, I think you’ll find that for this particular project you’ll want something thin and light.

I recommend a standard tissue paper, at least 15″ x 20″ in size. If you can find tissue paper that’s 20″ x 30″, you’ll create less waste and be able to use more of your paper.

Using a tissue paper which is a little lighter will ensure that your flowers aren’t too heavy to remain adhered to the wall.

Supplies You’ll Need

You only need a few materials to create this easy and quick paper flower wall. Here’s what you’ll need.

Tissue Paper. Again, if you can find tissue paper in your desired color that’s 20″ x 30″, you’ll be able to use more of your material and create less waste. Here’s a set with lots of really pretty color options.

Scissors. Nice sharp crafting scissors will ensure your cuts are clean and crisp, which will result in paper flowers that look great.

Masking Tape or Glue Dots. Glue Dots are good to keep on hand, as they’re easy and quick to use. Always test Glue Dots on your wall in an inconspicuous place to be sure that they won’t damage the finish on your walls. If you don’t have Glue Dots handy, masking tape will work just as well! See our instructions below on how to use masking tape instead.

A Blank Wall. That’s the easiest part! All you need is a wall with nothing on it and you’re ready to go.

How to Make a Paper Flower Wall

Here’s how to make one!

Materials

Instructions

  1. Start by cutting your tissue paper into sheets that are 20″ by 10″. Fold them accordion style, and cut one end into a rounded shape with your scissors.
  2. Unfold the tissue, and at the square end, gather the tissue together by crumpling it slightly. Fold a piece of masking tape around itself so that it’s double-sided, and place it on one end of the crumpled tissue paper. (You can also use large Glue Dots for this — I preferred masking tape for this project.) Stick the opposite end to the other side of the masking tape so that the paper forms a flower shape. Mold the paper until you’re happy with the shape of the flower. Now make a bunch of these!
  3. After your flowers are all made, start placing them on the blank wall with rolled masking tape or glue dots. Decide on your pattern and continually step back to see your progress. I preferred a scattered look, but this would also be beautiful with a solid wall full of flowers.

    1. Hi Angela! Actually after I figured out how to make the first one, they came together really quickly. If you cut a few sheets at the same time it’s even faster. I was able to make all of the flowers in less than an hour, and it took about 20 minutes to put them all up.

  3. Oh my goodness, you have no idea how excited I am that I found your blog! You have the best ideas and everything here is so lovely!! I am def gonna do this backdrop, it is pure genius!
