One of the things on my 30 by 30 list was to eat at ABC Kitchen. ABC Carpet and Home is one of my favorite stores in the city for window shopping, and when they got together with Jean-Georges to create a restaurant that features local and organic ingredients, I knew I had to try it out!
Mr. Lovely and I stopped by for an early Sunday dinner, and we were able to slip in without a reservation. We were seated at a table for two, and started taking it all in. The tablescapes were pretty adorable — mismatched china for bread plates, tea towels for napkins, and handmade porcelain dinnerware by a local artist.
The space is just gorgeous, and features mainly recycled, reclaimed, and found materials. The food is locally sourced when possible, and the philosophy of the restaurant honors fair trade and sustainability. All of this is to say that not only is it a super-cool eating experience, but a responsible one as well.
We decided to split a few appetizers, and ordered the crispy squash with grated goat cheese, the pretzel-dusted calamari, roast carrot and avocado salad, and the tomato basil pizza. Oh. My. Gosh. Thank goodness for the 30 by 30, because this was one of my favorite meals ever in NYC. Every ingredient was clearly so fresh and handled with great care — we had a hard time picking favorites. If I had to choose, I’d put the salad at the top of my list, and the pizza at the bottom. But we’re splitting hairs here, people.
The food was awesome, the atmosphere was beautiful and chill, and the serving staff wears plaid shirts with jeans. I mean, could it get much better? xoxo
