How to Make a DIY Floral Boutonniere

DIY Floral Boutonnieres

Is it just me or is prom right around the corner?! Did you go to prom? I kind of both loved and hated it. There’s so much pressure! I just wanted to dance and have fun, but you have so many things to plan for and worry about. Should we get a limo? Who’s going in our limo? Should I just borrow my dad’s car? What’s my date wearing? Do we match? And what about the boutonnieres?! Getting flowers for your date was like a big deal in my day. The boys had to get the girls corsages and the girls had to get the boys boutonnieres. If I was going to prom now, I’d get all my girlfriends together that morning and make a bunch of these for our dates. Boom. Problem solved.

So simple, huh? They took me about 3 minutes each to make in real time, and if you get a mixed bouquet you can make a whole bunch of them! Totally simple and way less cheesy than the little rosebud you’ll get at a florist IMHO. 😉 In case you’re in a reading mood, see full instructions below!

Materials

Step 1: Pick a few stems and trim them to about 3 inches in length.

Step 2: Layer the blooms and wrap the stems with a few rounds of floral tape.

Step 3: Wrap a length of twine around the floral tape, tying with a double knot on the back side of the boutonniere.

Step 4: Trim the ends of the twine and trim all of the stems so that they’re even. Fasten to a lapel with a straight pin.

That’s it! Now let’s all go pretend we’re florists! xoxo
