Star Jello Shot recipe

Materials

Make Time: 15 Minutes Prep + 2-3 Hours Chilling Time

  1. Boil 1/2 cup water and 1/2 cup of your choice of alcohol (if you want to make them non-alcoholic just boil 1 cup of plain water). Once boiling, remove from heat and add in a 6 oz package of Jello.
  2. Stir for 2-3 minutes or until the powder is completely dissolved.
  3. Spray the interior of the molds lightly with cooking spray.
  4. Transfer liquid to a measuring cup or similar vessel with a pour spout and carefully fill your star molds with the liquid. One 6 oz package of Jello made approximately 22-24 stars for us; it helps a ton to have multiple molds if you want to make big batches. You can use other shape molds as well!
  5. Place molds in the refrigerator, checking for firmness after 2-3 hours. Once chilled, remove and set out for guests to enjoy! These will keep overnight as well if you’d like to make them ahead of time.

What’s the Serving size for Jello shots?

In this recipe, to make one batch of stars we used one half cup of alcohol. In a half cup of alcohol, there are four one-ounce shots. One batch makes 24 stars.

So you would consume six of these Jello stars to take a full, one-ounce shot of alcohol.

Please note! These numbers will change depending on the mold that you’re using and how much you fill the individual vessels within the mold.

To know how many stars equal one ounce of alcohol, divide the total number of stars from one batch by four.

How to Serve Jello Shots

After you create our Jello shot recipe, serve them up!

I find that one easy way to keep them fresh and cool while serving is to put a tray, cake stand, or marble slab in the freezer for about an hour and serve the Jello shots on that. The chilled serving platter will buy you some time and keep them cool for a while.

Because this Jello shot recipe creates shots in a special star shape, you can arrange them in a fun way for Fourth of July parties!

If you’re serving on a tray, arrange them in the shape of a firework, or in a cool pattern. Guests will love the visual appeal.

No matter how you serve them, remember to always drink responsibly. Also, be sure that if you make these for a party, all guests know that they contain alcohol!

And double check our recipe instructions to exclude the alcohol for a virgin Jello shot.

Have fun! xoxo
