DIY Funny Pumpkin Messages
These tiny, funny pumpkin messages are a cute take on fall pumpkin decorations! Follow our easy and quick tutorial to make this adorable autumn decor.
The tiny pumpkins are always my fave. My mom used to let my sister and me pick out a tiny pumpkin at the grocery store to take to our elementary school teachers each year. I just loved that.
And now I scatter them all over my house in the fall! These little cuties got made into funny pumpkin messages — you can make ’em say whatever you want.
This one’s quick and easy, and so fun to dream up things for your pumpkin to say.

Funny Pumpkin Painting Ideas
While you’re creating your own version of our funny pumpkin messages, use your imagination! Get creative and put your own spin on it.
You could choose different words (see more ideas down below!) You could skip words entirely and draw silly faces.
Or you could even create fun patterns like this project!
Supplies You’ll Need
You don’t need many supplies to create these funny pumpkins! You can grab it all on a trip to your local craft store, or probably even find most of what you need already in your cupboards.
Materials
Mini Pumpkins. The funny pumpkins we created here were made with fresh mini pumpkins, but you could also do this project with faux pumpkins! One benefit of using faux pumpkins is that you’ll be able to use them year after year.
Also, it’s important to note that you can use any color pumpkin for this project, especially if you’re planning on painting them black.
Black Craft Paint. We used black, but get creative! You can use any color you like as long as your paint pen is a contrasting color that will show up on the paint.
Paintbrush. Whatever you have in your cabinets will work perfectly!
My favorite paint pens. These paint pens are my faves! They flow well, they don’t make large puddles or drips, and they come in a variety of tips from ultra thin to very wide.
How to Make Funny Pumpkin Messages
Make Time: 15 Minutes (plus drying time)
- Wipe down your pumpkins and make sure they’re clean and dry.
- Put a coat of black craft paint on each pumpkin. You might need to touch up some spots or put on a second coat for extra coverage!
- Allow the pumpkins to dry thoroughly.
- Fire up your paint pens and write out some funny pumpkin messages! I went simple, mostly because the more I write the worse my handwriting gets. For this step, I recommend practicing what you’re going to write or draw on a piece of scrap paper or cardboard before you put in on your pumpkin, to avoid mistakes and get the feel of the paint pen.
More Ideas for Sayings On Your Funny Pumpkins
Like I said, we kept ours simple, but you could go all out on the funny pumpkin sayings! Here are a few more ideas to get you feeling creative:
- Oh my gourd
- I love fall most of all
- I put a spell on you
- Hello, gourd-geous
- Meet me at the patch
- Falling for you
- Hello autumn
How To Display Your Mini Pupmkins
These would be so cute as place cards at a Halloween or fall dinner, or as teacher gifts too!
Or go big and paint up a huge pumpkin with a message to put out on your porch.
What would you have yours say? Have a good time, Halloweenies! xoxo
