How to Make a Champagne Emoji Pin for New Year's Eve

Why is that dang champagne emoji so cute?! I can’t get enough of that one, and in case you can’t either I’ve got a fun idea for ya. While you’re toasting on New Year’s Eve and clinking glasses full of real bubbly, all the cool kids are gonna be wearing a little mini bubbly on their sweaters! Hashtag champage, y’all.

Materials

Make Time: 1 Hour (Plus Drying Time)

Step 1: On a flat surface, roll out your clay until it’s about 1/4″ thick. I like to use a smooth, round water glass to roll out clay, rather than a rolling pin.

Step 2: Now you’ll need to draw the outline of the champagne bottle on the clay. My recommendation is to draw a mirror image of the emoji, so that the underside of the clay will end up being the front of the pin; this will make for a nice, smooth front. Gently draw the outline of the champagne bottle on the clay with a pointy carving tool. Be sure to include the bubbles and cork!

Step 3: Slice away the excess of the clay with a knife clay tool.

Step 4: Smooth any rough edges of the clay with the flat edge of your knife tool. Do any detailing that you need to make the edges nice and crisp.

Step 5: Leave the clay on a flat surface, flat side up, overnight to dry.

Step 6: When the clay is fully dry and hardened, you can use a small piece of sandpaper to smooth away any leftover rough spots.

Step 7: Paint your champagne bottle just like the emoji! We used a dark green for the bottle, yellow mixed with gold for the label, yellow mixed with white for the shiny portions of the label, gray and white for the bubbles, and tan for the cork.

Step 8: Allow the paint to dry fully. Flip the bottle over and use E6000 to affix a pin back to the backside.

Once the glue is dry, pin that baby on your sweater and party like it’s 2016! Better yet, make a bunch for you and your besties and wear ’em all over town while you celebrate. Happy new year, y’all! xoxo
