Come on. You didn’t think I’d pass up the opportunity to try a little DIY mom and baby costume, did ya?! Since Henry is my little sidekick I thought we’d get our imaginary wings out and dress as Birds of a Feather! You could even do this one with your BFF or significant other (if, that is, he’s willing to put a feather in his cap for the evening). It’s super simple and super affordable, and you can probably just customize some things that are already in your closet! We got all of our feathers at Michaels (I love the colors they have!), along with a couple of other pieces you’ll need to put it all together.
- fabric glue (this one works wonders)
- plain headband
- baby onesie
- baby beanie
Make Time: 30 Minutes
Step 1: Start by glueing some feathers down in a crisscross pattern on your headband. Allow them to dry thoroughly.
Step 2: Make three separate arrangements of feathers; two for mom and one for baby. Get various colors and glue the feathers on top of one another. Allow to dry.
Step 3: Glue an arc of feathers onto the front of the baby onesie. Be sure to trim off any sharp ends so the little one doesn’t get scratched.
Step 4: Glue one feather stack on each shoulder of mom’s cardigan. Put the third feather stack into a fold in baby’s beanie.
Yaaaaay! I have to admit, Hanky was more interested in eating my feathers than in posing for the camera but it was pretty adorable nonetheless. I love this little costume, especially for a busy mom who’s looking for something cute, simple, and quick for Halloween! Heck, make a whole family of birds! Bonus points if you go around whistling all night. For more fun costume ideas or Halloween inspiration, check out the Michaels Halloween project page.
