We are so excited to share these DIY balloon animal drink stirrers with you! I mean, they are just the cutest and I am officially in love with the fun shape of these mini drink markers.

Who doesn’t want a cute little balloon dog sitting on top of their summer cocktail?

This DIY comes to you from Kara of Kailo Chic, who is the queen of colorful and fun DIY projects. Be sure to check out her blog as well!

Kara found the inspiration for these mini balloon dog stirrers after seeing all the adorable balloon animal banks, purses, and pool floats filling all of our Instagram feeds a few years back.

All you need to make a set of your own is a bit of clay, some glue, and maybe your favorite show to binge watch while you create!

If you love this colorful vibe, we have a whole library of fun DIY ideas that are full of color! Check out the list below and pin the ones that you love the best.

What Exactly Do Drink Markers Do?

If you’re not familiar with drink markers, let me introduce you! They’re a simple but genius little invention that help to identify your drink when you’re at a gathering or event.

Without drink markers, it’s easy to lose your glass in a sea of glasses that look just the same.

But! Put a little colorful balloon animal on the side of your glass and you’ll always know which one is yours! That’s why we make these in an array of colors — each guest can keep track of their glass by which color drink marker they choose.

In this case, you can create these to be drink markers or swizzle sticks (which help to stir your drink), or both.

Ways To Customize These DIY Drink Markers

Obviously you could take a tip from this DIY and customize it a whole slew of different ways!

  • Choose your favorite colors of clay or paint and really vary the color palette.
  • Create varying animals, shapes, or styles of topper.
  • Alter the size based on your glasses and what would work best.
  • Use them with or without the swizzle stick portion.

Ideas for When To Use This DIY

These DIY drink markers or drink stirrers are a fun addition to your gatherings when you’re entertaining at home!

They’d be particularly fun for a birthday party or summer celebration — and I’m guessing they’d definitely be a conversation starter, too!

How cute would it be to include these in a baby or wedding shower, and even give them as gifts or favors?

Also, you don’t need to be drinking cocktails to use them — they’d be fun for kids parties as well.

Supplies You’ll Need

This DIY doesn’t take many supplies at all! It comes together quickly and is super fun to create. Check out our linked list below to find everything you’ll need.

How to Make DIY Drink markers or Swizzle Sticks

Make Time: 2-3 Hours

  1. Begin by making all the pieces for your balloon dog. You will need 4 legs, a body, a tail, neck, nose, 2 ears, and two tiny balls for the tail and nose. I went with the iconic shape for mine, but feel free to stretch your creative muscles and make other balloon animal shapes too!
  2. Combine all your pieces by pressing them together gently with your fingers. If any pieces don’t stick well, you can use super glue to attach them after you bake the pieces.
  3. Turn your baking sheet over and place your balloon animals on the bottom of the sheet (this keeps the top food safe for future baking) and bake in a 275 degree F oven for 15-20 minutes. Let cool.
  4. Use your industrial strength adhesive to glue the dogs onto the clear acrylic drink stirrers. Once the glue has set overnight, your stirrers are ready to adorn your favorite beverage.
