vera wang can do no wrong

Wow. I mean, I know I’m married and all, but if I’m being honest I’d have to say that some of the new wedding dresses from David’s Bridal have me daydreaming about wedding gowns all over again — especially the White by Vera Wang collection. All of her pieces are so sculptural and beautiful, and one hundred percent feminine. I love all of the details and the accessories — the oversized bows, the unexpected pops of black, and the layers and layers of fabric are just so pretty.

You can also check out Vera’s sketches and inspiration; I always think it’s so awesome to see a designer’s original vision and how it comes to life. Whaddaya think? Do you have a fave? xoxo

jackie and codey are engaged

And not only are they engaged, but they’re both total knockouts.  They asked me to snap some photos of them by a park up near our apartments.  (We’re not only super good friends, but close neighbors!  I know, it’s totally Lucy-Ricky-Fred-Ethel.  And I love it.)  Anyhoo, I was a little terrified when they asked me to take some engagement photos, because that’s kind of an important moment, ya know?  And I’m a purely experimental photographer, so to be trusted with something so major was both nerve-wracking and such an honor!

In any case, it’s a good thing they’re so pretty, because I didn’t really have to much work to make them look fantastic.  So here are Jackie and Codey, engaged and over-the-moon, and too cute to describe.  Have a look.  Congrats, guys!  xoxo

our diy wedding invitation suite

It’s fun to revisit some of the wedding hubbub now that the big day has passed!  I came across a set of our wedding invitations recently while getting things put away, and thought I’d share them with you here.

Mr. Lovely and I were sorely tempted to have some awesome letterpress invites designed and printed up, but when it came down to it, we were more interested in designing them ourselves (and saving some money in the process!).  I shared our Save-the-Dates earlier this year; now you can check out the rest of the invitation suite.

Like our Save-the-Dates, we designed our invites on Photoshop and sent the design away to Vistaprint to be printed up and sent back to us.  When we got back all of the pieces, Mr. Lovely used the vintage Smith-Corona typewriter for addresses and our return address, typing them one by one.  We cut mulberry paper from Kate’s Paperie and wrapped it around the invitation pieces, tied with a bit of baker’s twine.  We used the King & Queen of Hearts postage stamp, and sent our invites on their merry way.  Take a closer look!  xoxo

The reception was crammed full of people and happiness, and was DIY to the last drop.  The centerpieces were vintage books from my grandmother’s house, mason jars from our family farm, letterpress blocks that Mr. Lovely and I bought each other as an engagement present, and wrought iron table numbers handmade by my dad.

Our cake toppers were Jonathan Adler salt and pepper shakers (given to us as a housewarming gift from a dear friend).  Around the cake, we had photos of our parents and grandparents on their wedding days.  The cake was backed up by a candy buffet, which included a vintage postage scale and my grandmother’s antique cut glass dishes.

Our friends and family entertained themselves in a photobooth, decorated with homemade chalkboards and vintage photos & cameras.  And on our guest table, people typed us messages on an antique Smith-Corona typewriter — the same typewriter we used to address the save-the-dates, invitations, and to type names on placecards.

There was cake cutting and merry-making, and finally the last dance, after which we kicked our shoes off and went back over every detail of the most perfect day. xoxo

we got married

Maybe – just maybe – the perfect day.  The morning was girls running around in robes and jammies, doing hair and makeup.  There was family coming and going, and lunch, and all of a sudden there was Mr. Lovely in a pretty sharp-looking suit.

Then there were bridesmaids and groomsmen and more family, and a red ’57 Chevy Bel Air to take us across town to tie the knot.

And finally there was a church and a steeple, and all the people we care about inside.  There was music, and singing, and tears and smiles, and love that just about popped the building open.

I won’t lie — the after party was just as good.  Come back tomorrow to see a little more.  And let’s clap it up for Joelle at Joelle Pulido Photography, for taking all of these amazing photos (that I can’t seem to stop staring at).  xoxo

family wedding photos

Phewph!  Now that we’re back from our whirlwind honeymoon, I’d love to start sharing some little details of the wedding!  Our photographer Joelle (from Joelle Pulido Photography) captured so many lovely things, and I’m grateful to have these little snippets to share.  Let’s talk vintage pictures.

Mr. Lovely and I thought it would be a cool little way to include our families and some history if we went through some of our old family photos and displayed them at our reception.  After looking and sifting and sorting, we decided to narrow it down to wedding photos of our parents and grandparents, and have them on the cake table.  I just love old photos to begin with, and to see your own family members on one of the happiest days of their lives (so many years ago, for some!) is just beyond cool.

Which are your faves?  And can you guess who’s who?  xoxo

getting hitched & honeymooning — see you soon!

Oh, my Lovelies, the big day is upon us.  On Saturday I’ll be a Mrs., and then Mr. Lovely and I jet off to Tahiti for a week or so — a much, much needed break together to celebrate our lives ahead!  I sort of can’t believe it’s time.

Almost exactly a year ago, I started Lovely Indeed to chronicle our engagement and keep family back home apprised of our wedding doings.  Aside from serving those purposes, the blog has become much more; I’ve met so many lovely people, had bunches of adventures, and pushed myself to learn things I never thought I would all because of Lovely Indeed.  I’m so, so thankful for it all.

Lovely Indeed’s actual birthday is August 25, right in the middle of the first half of our honeymoon.  Talk about timing!  I’ll be taking a little break from blogging until we’re back from our honeymoon, but you better believe that we’re going to have a belated blog-birthday celebration to beat the band!  I’m talking wedding recaps, honeymoon photos, DIY extravaganzas, and (best of all) giveaways.  And not to mention — did I tell you that Mr. Lovely and I have added a second portion to our honeymoon?  After we return from Tahiti, we’re taking a week to drive down the California coast and spend some time in Coronado (after a stop at Disneyland).  I’ll be blogging during that portion of our travels, posting photos and adventures as we go!

So to keep you entertained while I’m gone, here’s a little recap of some of my favorite posts from the year.  Take a little trip down memory lane and wish me luck while I’m taking a little trip down the aisle.  See you soon, Lovelies!  xoxo
