A Few Good Gifts

Gifts

We’re about to enter what I lovingly call “wedding season.” I feel like the months of June through about September are always jam-packed with people getting hitched, and this year is no exception — we’re invited to five weddings in the coming months! So naturally, it’s also wedding shower season and anniversary season. You know where I’m headed with this, right? Gifts.

Gifting for these shindigs can be so tricky! Lots of times I go straight to the registry and take care of it that way, because obviously the happy couple is asking for what they need. But more and more, I like to include an extra little something that’s just for fun. Maybe they need a toaster, but what would be really cool is an at-home-gin-making-kit because they’re into that sort of thing. I was cruising through Uncommon Goods the other day and I kept coming across all of these great little trinkets that would make perfect wedding (or shower or anniversary!) gifts.

I love this online shop because they provide a platform for artists and makers to get their goods out into the world. So they’ve got a huge selection of handmade items, in addition to an awesomely curated collection of other goods, the majority of which are made in the U.S.

Ya know, I never would have registered for this flipping rad is this DIY lomography camera, but how cool would it have been to get as a gift to take on our honeymoon? (You can take it apart and decorate it however you want — snap it up soon, it’s discontinued.) We have some friends getting married soon who are bike enthusiasts, so I’d love to include this little bike care kit in their gift. That extra little thoughtful gesture means a ton — I still have and treasure some of the off-registry gifts we got for our wedding.

So what’s your take on the whole thing? Are you a straight-off-the-registry-gifter? Or are you a gifting renegade? xoxo

  1. Such a cool diy camera! I make unique customised spoons for weddings 🙂 I love making something that will last forever and is so personal xx

  2. What a cute camera. I think I’m a little of both on the gifting front – I like to get people things from their registry, but I usually try to sneak a little something in there that I have picked out on my own as well. That way it feels a little bit more personal, but they’re still getting what they want.
