Time for a quickie! I was wandering through Michaels the other day looking for some party supplies in my favorite colors and I just wasn’t finding what I was looking for. But I did find these cute wooden spoons in the dollar bins, along with some good ol’ fashioned craft paint. I think you see where I’m going with this, yes? These took me 5 minutes to paint, about 20 minutes to dry, and they’re ready for a summer party!

  • wooden utensils
  • craft paint
  • paintbrush
  • washi tape

Make Time: 5 Minutes (Plus Drying Time)

Step 1: Place a piece of washi tape at the base of the handle of each utensil.

Step 2: Paint your desired color of craft paint on the handle. Let dry; repeat if you’d like more coverage.

Step 3: Remove washi tape and party!

I have to tell you, I’m becoming a bigger fan of quickie DIYs every day! I love making, but mama’s got a time budget, if you know what I mean. Hope you try this super fast project for your next celebration! And if you need a little more summer party inspiration, you can see what the rest of the Michaels Makers are up to right here. xoxo

What craft paints do you use? Love these colors!

Hi Katie! I most often use the Martha Stewart craft paints because they have a really great color selection.

These are super cute! Love the color combinations. How long did it actually take you to do all these spoons?

Hi Molly! It really did take me about 5 minutes. About 3 minutes to tape them all, and about 2 minutes to swipe on a coat of paint. They dried in about 20 minutes or so.

So cute! Two questions…. 1) Do you think that the paint would run if there were sticky ice cream hands touching them? Or are they better for just adults? 2) How did you keep the paint from going on the sides of the spoons? I feel like it would look sorta drippy and uneven on the sides if I did it.
