Hey hey, Monday lovers!  How’s about this for a color fest?  Today’s pool-blue color reminds me of long days spent by the pool last summer at the Sarasota Ritz Carlton.  Now that was the life!  This blue hue makes me feel the sun on my shoulders and I immediately want to dip my toes in the water.  Do you guys have a favorite poolside hangout?  I’m thinking that since I can’t make it to a pool these days I’ll just spend some time gazing longingly at today’s post.  Have a great week!  xoxo

So as those of you who have been following my Photo a Day for a Year project may know, the site has been down for a few days now.  It actually got hacked, and it’s been kind of tricky to get it back in working order.  So since I’m the only one of the Photo a Day crew left doing the challenge, I decided to finish it out here!  I’m a few days behind because of the technical issues, so this post should catch us up.  After today, if you’re interested in seeing the Photo a Day, just come to the blog and it’ll be here — click on A Photo a Day up in the header.

And by the way, I’m almost there!  July 1st will be the one year mark.  Don’t worry — we’ll do a special celebration.  xoxo

I’m so excited for the weekend.  I have zero plans except for my adorable book club on Sunday evening (we’re reading this book — have you read it?).  Otherwise, I’m taking it very easy after a pretty crazy week.  Sounds lovely to me.

Also, I can’t tell you how much I’ve absolutely loved reading your thoughts on this post!  You are all so thoughtful and have such interesting input.  I just love that we have a place like this where we can share and chat as though we were all sitting around a table with a cup of tea.  If you missed it, I’d love to hear your story: read the full post about married names here.

And I’m off!  I have a very busy schedule of relaxing to attend to.  Have a wonderful weekend!  xoxo

Happy Friday, sweet things!  A random stream of consciousness for you:

I know that the font I used today is kind of hard to read.  It’s not meant to be used this way really, but I just bought it and I’m obsessed with it and it wanted to come out and play.  Also, next week is our one-year anniversary of Friday Favorites!  I’m thinking of doing a grand finale and then switching up our Friday ritual.  Whaddaya think?  Any other bright ideas of how we could wrap up every week?  It’s so nice to look back and take stock of the week (and to take some time to be grateful), but maybe there’s another way we could do it.  I’m open to suggestions!  Give me a great idea for a new Friday column and I’ll hop to it.

Now.  What were your faves this week?  xoxo

You guys!  Did you see my latest DIY over at The Sweetest Occasion?  It’ll be perfect for your next party — little glittery swizzle sticks so your guests can sip in style.  Apparently the folks at Hobby Lobby loved it too, because they featured the project on their Facebook page this week!  I was pretty stoked.  See it here at The Sweetest Occasion, and here on the Hobby Lobby page.  xoxo

did you change your name?

Just been thinking a bit lately about the old get-married-change-your-last-name trick that us girls have to navigate.  If you’re a girl, and you’re married, did you change your name?  And if you’re a dude and you’re married, did your lady change hers?  And if not, what happened?  I’d love to know.

I didn’t take Mr. Lovely’s last name.  I did sign the papers that make it a possibility one day, rather than closing the matter off completely.  But I don’t know — something about changing my last name didn’t quite feel right.  It didn’t have anything whatsoever to do with my most adorable husband.  It wasn’t even some lofty feminist statement.  When you boil it down, for me, it’s this:  I’ve been Chelsea Costa for 30 years, and I like it.  I like my name, and I like that my initials are C.C.  I like how it feels to write and how it looks (not to mention that professionally, my name is already my brand).  I never correct anyone if I’m called by my husband’s last name; it doesn’t bother me at all.  It’s just that nowadays, I’m not sure that there’s a real reason for me to change it.

So I’m kind of curious what everyone else thinks!  It’s an interesting concept, no?  Does anyone have a husband who changed his name to yours?  How about hyphenates?  Let’s talk about it.

And by the way, remember that pretty photo from the top of the post?  Here’s what happened right before it.  Bahaha.  xoxo

Prepare yourselves for the easiest DIY evah!  I found these little spoons recently at Pearl River Market (which you have to go check out if you’re in NYC), and I wanted to fancy them up a bit.  {Cue gold paint.}

Literally, the steps are: dip spoons, hang dry.  I used this gold paint again, and rigged a string in my windowsill where I could drip-dry the spoons.  Clip your spoons on a line to dry, and put a small dropcloth underneath to catch any errant drips.

I can’t wait to use these the next time we entertain!  They’ll be perfect for spooning out delish appetizers and goodies.  I’m doing da dip!  (Sorry, that had to happen.)  xoxo

Today is my sister’s last day in town!  We’ve been gallivanting all weekend — photos to come!  And I’m happy to say that this icky, rainy weather NYC is having didn’t slow us down a bit.  We outsmarted the rainclouds and did all of our outdoor toodling before they came along.  Then when it got rainy, we took things inside — think Broadway shows, shopping, and laying on the couch reading magazines.

So what do you love to do when it rains?  Are you one of those folks who puts on the rain boots and braves it?  Or would I find you curled up with a good book?  xoxo
