I need your help, Lovelies!  Every summer I put together a playlist of super-jams that become the soundtrack for the year, and I’m working on 2012’s as we speak.  I would love to know some of your favorite summer songs — I’m looking for stuff that sounds like a sunny day and makes you want to either dance or sing along.  What are your faves?

A couple of my newer faves are Jessie J’s Domino (that chick has the realest pipes since Christina Aguilera) and Tightrope by Janelle Monae (the dancing in that video is so amazing!).  There’s also obviously always room for the classics — James Taylor, The Beach Boys, and the like.  So whatcha got?  Introduce me to some new tunes!  xoxo

Mr. Lovely was away this weekend.  And I’m not gonna lie — when he left, I kind of felt like a kid whose parents left town and suddenly was given the run of the house.  Except instead of throwing a rager and wrecking the joint, one of my best girlfriends came over to paint our toes and watch episodes of Keeping up with the Kardashians.  (Wild and crazy times, I know.)

But I got to thinking about why I was kind of excited about having the house to myself.  I mean, I obviously love being with my husband daily.  And by the end of the weekend, I literally sent him a text that said “Okay this isn’t fun any more, come back now please.”  Ha!  But for the majority of the weekend, I was having a good ol’ time all by my lonesome.

Maybe it’s because our apartment is so tiny and just to be in it by yourself is refreshing.  Or maybe it’s because I lived alone for so long, and it was a like a little flashback of that, where you don’t have to answer to anyone but yourself.  I think that might be the nitty gritty of it — that for even just a day or two, I was literally doing anything I pleased (Kardashian marathon included).  And not that it’s a way that I’d want to live all day, every day; after all, I love having people to care for and spend time with.  But it’s more like a mini-vacation…  Where you don’t go anywhere.

Anybody feelin’ me here?  What’s your own version of a Kardashian marathon — if you had a weekend all to yourself, what would you be doing?  xoxo

You guys, Easter’s a couple of weeks away, and I went on an Easter egg decorating binge last weekend.  I realized that I hadn’t dyed eggs in years, and I think I may have been trying to make up for lost time.  These don’t require any dye though — just get some eggs, washi tape, and scissors, and go to town.

The directions are kind of self-explanatory; just cut tape in different shapes and apply to room-temperature eggs (hard-boiled, if you wish).  The only one that was a bit tricky was the gold dot egg — I layered two types of washi tape and punched out dots with an oversized hole punch.

Whaddaya think?  Is it something that you’d try, or do you prefer the tried-and-true dyed Easter eggs?  I think these are so lovely, but I couldn’t resist a little dye action too — I’ll share those a little closer to Easter!  xoxo

Remember the DIY glitter garland I made forever ago?  Well, it kind of took off (see more incarnations here and here), and I recently had a request from someone special for some that might serve as inspiration.  So I chose some words & phrases and went to town!  Here are the results.

If you’re finding yourself in need of a wordy little sparkle garland, don’t be shy — contact me and we can talk about a custom garland, just for you.  xoxo

Hey!  It’s Monday!  I’m still loving this new color column, so let’s get to it.  I know that there are some persnickety folks who might have a bone to pick with me over calling this color hibiscus rather than coral, but hey — who cares?  Any way you slice it, it’s gorgeous.  This particular orangey-pink hue makes me long for summertime, out-of-control sunsets, and fruity drinks.  Oh, and obviously a quick trip to Hawaii.  xoxo

Another week, gone!  NYC is still having some pretty extraordinary weather, and this week filled me with a renewed energy.  I really always forget how much the weather affects my mood, and then when Spring peeks its head out after an icky winter I just can’t stop smiling.  How was your week?  I always love to know a few of your favorite things!  xoxo

horizon

I’ve been doing lots of thinking lately about the blog, about life, and about the future.  And the deal with all three of those things is this: they’re completely uncertain.  Mr. Lovely and I are at a transition point in our life together, and it’s a little uncomfortable.  Not bad; just uncomfortable.  The blog is at a place where it’s wanting to grow and I need to figure out how to do it in a way that’s sustainable for me, because I absolutely love Lovely Indeed and I love blogging.  Mr. Lovely and I are trying to plan a future for ourselves that’s right for us, which may not be the traditional “get married, get jobs, buy a house, have kids, be normal people” scenario.  (Or maybe it will be — who knows?)  And life is moving right along, and we’re also trying to live every moment in a way that makes us and the people around us happy.

All of this is to say: lots of things are up in the air right now, and I can honestly say I have no idea what’s on our horizon.  But I do know a few things.  I’m not scared and neither is he.  Good things are coming.  And whatever they are, they’ll be good because we’ll be taking them on together.

I know that I don’t usually get this personal or introspective on the blog, but lately I’ve been feeling that that may be exactly what’s lacking here at Lovely Indeed.  Because while I love sparkly things and glue guns, life runs far deeper than all of that, and after all — we’re all real people, dealing with real life as it comes at us (it doesn’t get much more real than that).  So.  That’s off my chest.  Anything on your chest today?  Do you know where your life is headed?  Have you ever had a time of being completely unsure?  What’s on your horizon?  xoxo

You guys.  Every Spring, J.Crew‘s new arrivals make me absolutely lose my mind.  Their pieces are so effortlessly cool and so easy to wear; it’s impossible not to look pulled together and chic in a relaxed way.  And most of all, I love love love the pops of bright color that they’re not afraid to use.  This spring is no exception — I am coveting every piece that I see.  But I have to say, my most favorite are those sweet scalloped shorts!  I’m definitely not mad at those cuties.  xoxo
