Yesterday was Memorial Day, and Sarasota’s downtown district hosted a hometown parade. At one point, an ROTC group stopped on the parade route and a bugle player at the head of their procession played taps. Immediately, the crowed hushed, and I looked around to see more than a few elderly gentlemen stand and salute until the song ended. It made me feel grateful.

On our last day off, some of the Cowgirls took a short drive down to the beach at Siesta Key.  We were all in heaven, and spent some quality time in the waves and on the sand.
Afterwards, we stopped in Siesta Village for a little bite, and ended up at The Old Salty Dog.  It’s the perfect post-beach joint; juicy burgers, crispy fish sandwiches, and seafood galore (not to mention margaritas and huckleberry lemonade, served in mason jars).  The perfect end to a summer day.  xoxo

I tackled one of the things on my 30 by 31 recently and concocted my very first batch of homemade guacamole. The beautiful thing about making guac is that you kind of can’t go wrong, as long as you have some good fresh avocados.  I made mine with 2 avocados, a third of a red onion, half of a serrano pepper, a medium tomato, some fresh cilantro, juice from half of a lime, and salt.  Mash the avocado in a bowl, dice everything else, and mix it all together.  My kind of cooking.  xoxo

One of the items on my 30 by 31 that I’m super blessed to have accomplished is #29:  Book another show.  Most of you know by now that I’m in Sarasota for the summer, playing Mickey in Cowgirls at Florida Studio Theatre.  So far, it’s a great little summer gig, and we’re having a blast.  I’m surrounded by beyond-talented girls all day long, and it’s so cool to watch these amazing actresses and musicians do their thing.

Part of the draw of the show is that we’re all playing our own instruments, rather than having an actual orchestra or band.  Between the six women in the cast, we have five guitars, two violins, two mandolins, a cello, an accordion, an autoharp, two ukuleles, a piano, a banjo, a tambourine, a harmonica, a bucket, and a washboard.  Now that’s country.  xoxo
